In 1894, Stanley-Bradley Publishing Co. 5 East 16th Street, New York.Offered a subscription to " The Soldier in our Civil War ". The illustrations are from acclaimed American Civil War Artists; Edwin Forbes; William Waud; James E. Taylor; Joseph Becker, Henry Lovie; Francis B. This is a large 11 1/2 by 17 inch book. This is the abridged edition that is now extremely rare. It was known as the salesman's copy or dummy copy. Instead of 2 large books the salesman carried this edition around with him to display the types of etchings that were in the books. Needless to say they choose the best ones. One of the reasons the book is so rare is they are being cannibalized at an amazing rate!!!!!!!!!!!! I will not cut these artifacts up!!!!!! This copy has a new library quality binding enclosing all 256 pages. The pages have very little wear for a book made in 1894.
