Condition is excellent with minimal wear and a couple chips. 17 wide x 8 3/4 high and 2 thick.
High relief carved from one piece of oak. It is a door panel from an officers quarters. I have seen a similar panel noting it had been removed from a wardrobe door on a Civil War Frigate.
I live by Portsmouth Navy Yard, that was also referenced as its origin. Gold is old gilt paint. Old hanging wire on back.
Also marks where it was hung before. Evidence of panel use on edges.
