AMERICAN 9 POUNDER CANNONBALL, WESTHAM FOUNDRY, RICHMOND, VIRGINIA. This rather poor quality cast cannonball was made at the Westham Foundry in Richmond, Virginia. It was found many years ago along with some poor castings near the old foundry many years ago, There is a casting line where there were 2 different pours of iron left a casting ring around near the bottom of the ball & several small voids on the bottom. You can still see the grinding marks around the middle where the mold seam was very poorly ground off.Otherwise it is in very good condition with light pits & has a dark brown patina. It was bought by James Anderson in Richmond, Virginia from a local historian who found several of these 9 pounders & other size cannonballs many years ago. The Anderson Collection had over 1500 artifacts from this area of Virginia that were collected over 50 years of collecting. I bought it directly from the Anderson Collection & it comes with a certificate of authenticity & an Anderson Collection letter.
