Not only is it an ambrotype but his jacket has also been tinted red. The size is approximately 3 2/8" long by 2 6/8" wide. The photograph itself is in excellent condition. The case is split in to. Please look at my photograph. The case is stamped with an eagle on an American shield, surrounded by flags, with a large ribbon within its beak.. The estate sales I went to had many historical items, from a Road Island family. Attached is a letter probably written after the fact from the family.

The letter states as best as I can read it.. The youngest son of a slave woman who was bought for one dollar by Miss EB Paiter and her son Joseph for the purpose of freeing her from the inhumane treatment of her owner Tatnell Paine of Florida Given L Joseph Bridy--- April 11 1897 by Ann A F Dexter daughter of Mrs E B Pattern.

I believe this ambrotype to be an extremely rare and exciting part of our American history. Please read all of the information down below so that you understand exactly how we do business.
